If the jeans don’t fit, don’t wear that *ish

I copped some jeans from Holister the other day and in my haste, I grabbed the wrong size – only to find out when I got home they wear too small.  In this observation, I noticed emediatly that although I am slim, skinny jeans would never be for me.  The only way I could walk around in these pants would be if I hag sagged (something I don’t do). Rule of thumb for jeans…if you can Stanky Leg in them, don’t wear them.

Sole Brother

Sole Brother

So I just got my first skateboard today.  Unfortunately it was rainy, so I’ll probably try out my new board tomorrow.  I wanted to check out some new kicks at my friendly neighborhood skate shop, Sole Brother, but instead I found myself drawn into the decks on the wall.  I was helped by the owner Chris and salesman, Rodney. The Norfolk, Va. store had a nice selection of decks, skateboard accessories, clothes and of course shoes – hence the name Sole Brother.  I’ll definitely be back.

INSA

30 12 2008

B. Summers

An artist from the UK, residing in East London has been doing his thing for about 15 years under the name INSA – a four letter word he made up for him self back then. Although he doesn’t focus on graffiti too much, he feels it was an “important part of [his] life and a major influence on how [he sees] the world” and chose to keep the anonymity. If you are ever in London , you might catch a glimpse of a tear drop flame head sprayed on a wall or a train. He uses images of women’s high heel shoes to mostly symbolize in his most notable fetish pieces.

INSA has done work on almost everything. He has painted cars, vans, whole train cars, walls ( of course ), people, and he has even been invited to Sweden to sculpt the famous Ice Hotel. To add to his adventurous escapades, he plans to do some painting in Brazil in the new year.

After several years of painting heels on walls, INSA partnered up with fashion guru Ruth Shaw to make three leather heels with INSA inspired patterns. The shoes have been a big deal to bloggers, collectors and shoe connoisseurs.

Clearly INSA has become a graffiti culture mogul. In all his fame, he chose to remain anonymous, as the name INSA is really ‘just a creative evolution from
writing [his] name, but you can try your best to make out his blurred face on his blog, www.insaland.com/blog , or just catch him at any upcoming show.

D’Anthony Designs

2 10 2008

I recently started wearing bow ties, and I owe it to this guy right here. David Wilson, of D’Anthony Design. He has put his own flare on ties. D’Anthony Design started when David’s go-to-guy for ties and other accessories left VA for the Big Apple.

Wilson gets creative with his choice of textiles he uses. From stripes to plaid to floral designs, he does it all. He plans to branch out from bow ties to eventually designing his entire wardrobe. With hopes of one day having a high end line of men’s accessories, Wilson is looking for boutiques to carry his line of ties.

Until then you can find D’Anthony Design bow ties on Myspace on www.myspace.com/soulfultenordave.

In case you can’t think of how to coordinate a D’Anthony tie with what’s in your closet, just send him a message on his Myspace and he’ll respond with some advice for your matching inquiries.

BOW TIES

29 07 2008

I’ve recently been put on to bow ties. I learned how to use a sewing machine in high school, so after seeing the price of some ties, I decided to sew my own. Here are my first four ties I’ve made.
